Professional Summary and Interest

A bit of back ground on where you grew up?
I grew up in the beautiful South-Africa, in a small town, I moved to the city after school and obtained my bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene at the University of Pretoria.

Areas of expertise?

What is your specialty area or your passion in dentistry?
I would say treating patients who is nervous due to previous experiences and breaking the stigma that dental cleanings is painful and not a pleasant experience. I strive to give my patients a painless comfortable experience, allowing them to come back for their routine hygiene appointments.

Education in dentistry is a big passion. Education is defiantly the biggest preventative tool we have in dentistry and by educating patients on their diagnosis and how to improve their condition is still being looked over.

I have worked in many charities and community based program’s in Africa. I was also running a project where I educated 8000 children and their providers on maintaining good dental hygiene habits from a young age. This project was rewarded the GHP oral health and dentistry international award 2018 for the Excellence award in Preventative dental health.

What is your top tip to your patients?
To all my fellow coffee lovers. Try to drink your coffee over short period of time, and to rinse with water after drinking coffee continuously sipping on your coffee will increase the risk of coffee stains.

What is your favourite spot in Dubai: name / where and why?
The opera house. I am a theatre lover and Fran’s every opportunity to watch a good musical or theatre production. I am also a foodie and I am defiantly enjoying all the culinary experiences!

What is your favourite movie: which one and why?
“The Lion King”

Because what really sits at the heart of the Lion King story is the ability to forgive ourselves for the past, the mistakes we have made and the things we can’t change, and look to the future with pride at how far we’ve come on our journey, and how much more there is to learn and experience in the world around us. I defiantly love animations and feel there is so much to learn from them!

Book and podcast
Since I am a first time mother 90% of my reading and podcast time is filled on child development books and podcast 😂

What is your favourite hobby to empty your mind?
I am currently studying fashion, and I am taking sewing and designing as a hobby!

A healthy habit to recommend?
Practising gratitude every day. Law of attraction!

A recipe to share?
I make the best braised short ribs! Come visit me and I might just share the recipe 😉

Something that you do to lift your mood?
Coffee, it works every single time!

Something that you absolutely avoid doing or thinking?
Overthinking! “Whatever you hold in your mind on a consistent basis is exactly what you will experience in your life.”

Who are your heroes in real life and why?
My husband! He’s my backbone and my biggest support!

What is your greatest extravagance?
I’d say my greatest extravagance is travel. I’d rather see the world and enjoy it than putting all my money in savings.

What is your motto?
“Ubuntu “I am because you are – Nelson Mandela, it is a way of life

Specialist Prosthodontist & MD

Professional Summary and Interest

I was born and raised in the beautiful capital of Greece, Athens. I was enrolled in the College of Dentistry (University of Athens) in 2003 and received my DDS degree in 2008.

In 2009, I joined the Greek Army – Medical Corps to complete my service as a General Dentist and in 2010, I was accepted in the Postgraduate Program in Prosthodontics in the University of Athens, School of Dentistry. After 3+ years of full-time clinical and theoretical training on all aspects of Prosthodontics and Biomaterials, I successfully defended my Master Thesis research in 2014 and received my MSc degree in Prosthodontics and got recognized as a Specialist from the Hellenic Prosthodontic Society and the European Prosthodontic Association (EPA).

While doing my postgraduate studies, I was working as an associate in 2 dental practices in Athens, as a Prosthodontist, delivering dental treatment to patients in an interdisciplinary approach along with other specialists.

In the dawn of 2016, I received an offer to join King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, Riyadh (KSA), as a full-time faculty member. Moving outside of my country was a “leap of faith”, but eventually it turned out to be a life changing experience.

Participating in the education and training of the next generation of dentists in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, made me a better dentist and allowed me to learn a lot about the culture and way of living in the Middle East. Furthermore, treating patients for the Ministry of National Guard allowed me to further gain further experience, use the latest technology and materials up to that date and broaden my treatment spectrum.

Towards the end of 2018, I decided to move to the UAE and joined as a Specialist Prosthodontist, Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib (HMG) hospital in Dubai Healthcare City and in 2020, I joined Dr Michael’s Dental clinic and continued offering my services to my patients in Dubai.

During my career pathway, I gained the experience to be able to plan and execute from simple restorations to complex full mouth rehabilitation using combination of treatment modalities in collaboration with other dental specialists if needed, such as Periodontists, Orthodontists and Endodontists. My dental treatments spectrum includes fixed or removable prostheses supported by teeth and/ or implants, as well as ceramic veneers (Smile makeover), minimally invasive bonded dental prostheses (inlays/ onlays) and restorative dentistry (fillings). I am very keen on the implementation of modern technologies and integration of Digital Dentistry in the everyday practice of Prosthodontics and dentistry, in general, and I can treat patients with mild to moderate TMJ dysfunctions, with the use of removable intraoral appliances.

Due to the fact, I have always been very passionate about improving the treatment modalities offered to my patients and believing that this can only be achieved through continuous education and critical thinking regarding any new developments on the fields of Prosthodontics, Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry; I have attended numerous national and international Congresses during the last decade emphasized in the field of Prosthodontics and Cosmetic Dentistry and have published papers in various local and international dental journals.

Furthermore, I am a member of several international and national associations such as the European Prosthodontic Association, Saudi Commission of Health Specialties and the Greek Society of Prosthodontics and I am currently licensed to practice in the UAE, KSA, Greece and Germany.

I speak English, Greek fluently, German (intermediate level) and basic French.
My passion about Prosthodontics and Dentistry in general is that we can change the appearance and improve the quality of life of our patients, which can positively affect the patients’ confidence and self-image perception. Eventually having a beautiful and healthy smile can improve someone’s personal and professional life.

My top tip to my patients is to avoid missing their 6 month recall appointments, in case they want to avoid any dental issues becoming big and need extensive and expensive (!) dental treatments. Another useful tip: Do not believe everything you see on Instagram and do not do self-diagnosis from Google Search. Also, trust and comply as much as possible with the instructions given by their physician.
My favorite spot in Dubai is any place by the sea. From West Beach to Bluewaters. Growing up in the southern suburbs of Athens; the view of the sea takes me back home, calms my mind and lets me plan my next day.

Favorite movie(s): “The Godfather II”, it might sound scary, but I can guarantee I do not follow similar practices with my patients. However, the reason I picked this movie is because it emphasizes the importance of proper planning of future steps and precise and timely execution of the plan. As a Prosthodontist, eventually I have to plan and visualize the final result from the beginning of the treatment and demonstrate it to the patient. Hence, proper and detailed treatment planning of the full rehabilitation and precise execution is essential for the delivery of esthetic and functional results. Another favorite movie is: “American History X”, because it showed me at a very early stage of my life, to be open and welcoming to all people (regardless of their origins, religion or background) and you can only improve yourself by adapting and integrating new things in your life and practice. Furthermore, it showed me that following dogmas can only keep you in the past and they do not allow you to evolve.

Book I am reading now: “I used to have a plan”, by Alessandra Olanow.
However, I have to admit that I love reading about any new innovations and developments in Dentistry almost every day, and I strongly believe that the moment you become comfortable with what you are doing, you have to leave this comfort zone and try to improve further.

Favorite hobby to empty my mind?: Well, a heavy session in the gym can really help with emptying my mind, or just a long walk by the beach.
Healthy habit to recommend: Eat apples. Do not slice them, bite them. Apart from the general health benefits, they can help you keep your teeth cleaner from calculus accumulation.

Recipe to share: I am very well known among my friends for my delicious “pastitsio” (it is a Greek version of beef Lasagna). I will share the recipe with whoever requests it, however a tip for success; add some shredded Pecorino (salty and peppery yellow cheese) and toasted bread crumbs on top of your bechamel. It will take your pastitsio to the next level. Thank me later.

Things I do to lift my mood: I arrange a home gathering with good friends for a game night or, I call my friends from school in Greece.
Things I avoid doing or thinking: I try to avoid letting bias or opinions of others affect my judgment and evaluation of any situation.
My real life hero: My mother. She has always been there for me, in good and bad times. She has always been an unbiased consultant and a safe harbor during rough periods.

My motto: “Trust the process”. In life and Prosthodontics, even if there will be phases that the situation might not be pleasant or time consuming, if you have set your mind on the end goal, you have planned ahead accordingly and you stay concentrated, eventually the final result will be delivered.

Professional Summary and Interest

A bit of back ground on where you grew up?
I was born and raised in Barbados, a small island in the Caribbean, to expatriate parents. I went to school there until I was 18 and then moved to the United Kingdom to further my studies. As you can imagine, it was an idyllic place to grow up and as most of my family still live there, I continue to consider it as home and try to visit as often as I can.

Where did you study?
University of Bristol. I thoroughly enjoyed my 5 years there and as far as I am concerned it is one of the greatest cities in the World (I may be slightly biased though!).

What did you study?
Bachelor in Dental Surgery

Areas of expertise?
I have spent the last 8 years providing a range of general dental treatments including restorative work, Paediatrics and Oral Surgery and although I do enjoy General Practice, I made a decision last year to further my studies in Prosthodontics.

I am currently studying towards a Masters in Clinical Dentistry, specialising in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics from Kings College London. I chose this speciality because I believe restoring adversely affected teeth or replacing missing teeth can have a significant impact on a patient’s quality of life, both aesthetically and functionally. I also enjoy getting to know my patients and in my experience, this area gives me the best opportunity to continue to provide General Dentistry solutions whilst also supplying me with the ability to treat more complex cases when needed.

What is your passion in dentistry?
To me, compassion, trustworthiness and approachability are the cornerstones of my dental philosophy. So many patients have huge anxieties about dentistry (which is understandable, it’s not exactly a fun activity!) and I feel passionate about trying to reduce these as much as possible. I believe that having a good relationship with a patient and making sure everything is done to make them feel as comfortable as possible before any treatment is undertaken is very important in order to try and make the whole experience as enjoyable as possible.

What is your top tip to your patients?
Use fluoride! And spit (don’t rinse) after brushing. Nobody seems to know that last one.

What is your favorite spot in Dubai :name / where and why
Koko Bay at West Palm Beach. It’s sentimental because it’s where I went to meet friends, straight from the airport, on my first visit to Dubai. I think that moment had a positive impact on my decision to move here. Also, who doesn’t love anywhere where you can eat food with your toes in the sand?!

What is your favorite movie : which one and why
Titanic because I love history and at heart I’m a hopeless romantic (I also stand by the fact there was enough space on the door for Jack!).

What book are you reading right now: title / author
Sapeins by Yuval Noah Harari. Very interesting, but it’s taking me an embarrassingly long time to finish it!

What podcast are you listening to?
Every and any true crime podcast

What is your favorite hobby to empty your mind?
Swimming. You won’t catch me at the Olympics any time soon but a casual long swim in the sea always puts my mind at ease.

A healthy habit to recommend?
Drinking a lot of water! I must go through 4L daily!

A recipe to share?
Macaroni Pie – A Barbadian speciality

Something that you do to lift your mood?
Exercise. I won’t lie, I don’t love doing it, but afterwards it’s impossible not to feel better!

Something that you absolutely avoid doing or thinking?
A marathon. I hate running.

Who are your heroes in real life and why? = the living person you most admire
It may be cliche but my Dad. He moved halfway across the world to a small Caribbean island in his young 20’s with not much to his name and little travel experience. Not only did he start a successful architecture business but he also founded the Barbados Rugby Union, played trumpet in a World renownend (at least according to him) dixie land jazz band until the age of 82, raised four children through good times and bad, and did all of this with an incredible sense of humour and zest for life.

What is your greatest extravagance?
Travel travel and more travel.

What is your motto?
Kindness is free

Dr. Jahida

Professional Summary and Interest

A bit about me
I’m Jahida from Syria however I grew up in Saudi Arabia then moved to UAE to pursue my bachelor’s degree in dentistry at university of Sharjah where I’m currently doing my master’s degree in Endodontics.
I am also the Co-founder of Dental Lounge, a leading dental academy dedicated to teaching courses and programs in dentistry.

Area of expertise:
Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry, as well as aesthetic smile makeovers.

What excites you in dentistry?
Bringing back healthy and functional smiles on my patients’ faces. Carrying out dental procedures with utmost attention to details, care and perfection.

Tip for my patients:
Don’t wait until you experience severe pain to treat your teeth.
Always remember: “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure “

What’s your moto in life?
Less is always more, approaching life with a simplistic and essential view. Even in Dentistry, I like to think of the procedures as experiences for my patients, as much as they are detailed and carried out according to international protocols , I always like to simplify them.

Favourite spot in Dubai:
Dubai has endless mesmerizing spots where you can enjoy watching the skyline and the sunset, which for me never fails to amaze me.

Things to lift my mood:
I’m a coffee addict and there is nothing a good cup of coffee can’t fix.

Professional Summary and Interest

A bit of back ground on where you grew up?
I was born in Beirut in 1990 and grew up there. I remember spending a peaceful and happy
childhood surrounded by family and friends. What is so special about Lebanon is that you
can benefit from four seasons with an amazing changing weather all year round.

What did you study?
I graduated from a French school called Notre Dame de Nazareth after getting both
Lebanese and French Baccalaureates in 2008. I pursued my studies in dentistry at the Saint
Joseph University of Beirut where I got the Doctorat of Dental Surgery degree in 2013 and
the Masters in orthodontics in 2017.

Areas of expertise?
I am comfortable communicating with patients, exposing their diagnosis and proper
treatment plan in a clear and simple way, which gives me the power to convince them to
undergo the orthodontic treatment.
I have a kind and compassionate nature that puts anxious patients, especially kids and teens, at ease.
I give attention to detail and have an artistic touch, which helps me finish my cases with
relevance.

What is your passion in dentistry?
What I love about orthodontics is that I create beautiful smiles, which gives patients self-
confidence and sometimes changes their lives.

What is your top tip to your patients?
I advise patients to be motivated before undergoing their orthodontic treatment since its
success depends on their cooperation as much as it relies on the orthodontist’s skills.

What is your favorite spot in Dubai :name / where and why
My all-time favourite spot in Dubai will remain the fountains shows of the magnificent Dubai
mall. That might sound ‘cliché’ as it is the most famous touristic spot in Dubai but these
various shows keep on fascinating me everytime!

What is your favorite movie : which one and why
My favorite movie is “Me Before You”. The love story featured in this movie is so different
from all other love stories. We all think that love is about fairytales, stomach butterflies and
a kind of La Vie en Rose feeling where in reality real love requires tenderness, devotion and
compromise. We forget ourselves to serve the other in sickness and weak times.

What book are you reading right now: title / author
There is no book I am currently reading although I love to read but my schedule nowadays is
a bit tight. However, the last e-book I read on Goodreads was the memoir of Michelle
Obama, Becoming. I remember being amazed by this fully accomplished woman who has
emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. S

What podcast are you listening to?
I usually listen to ‘TED Talks Daily’ podcasts; what I like about this podcast is that it happens
every weekday, it discusses every subject imaginable, from business, culture to health and
science, and everything in between. Also, it is relatively short (5 to 20 minutes), what gets you
to learn something new and ignite your curiosity in a fast way and on a daily basis.

What is your favorite hobby to empty your mind?
Outdoor sports such as swimming and jogging while listening to good music is my favourite
hobby. I believe that nature, music and physical effort is the perfect package to empty one’s
mind and let go of all the stress we face in our daily lives. I also like to ski, hit the slopes and
feel the wind hitting my face but, unfortunately, this is an activity that can’t be done on a
regular basis.

A healthy habit to recommend?
A healthy habit I would recommend is to eat well. What I mean by that is having 3 meals
daily topped up with healthy snacks. The tendency in these chaotic days is to skip breakfast
and stick to one meal per day at around 6-7 pm where we tend to eat big quantities and
unhealthy food, which leads to bad digestion and intestinal problems. Also, breakfast is very
important since it kick-starts the body and helps us concentrate during the early hours at
work.

A recipe to share?
The stir-fried noodles dish is always a good idea, since you can use whatever leftovers you
have in the fridge and it will come out delicious with its Chinese touch!
1) Start with dipping some broccoli in boiling water until they turn half cooked, then get them drained.
2) Chop some carrots, cabbage, green onions, leek and mushrooms.
3) Fry 2 tablespoons of olive oil with 3 chopped garlic cloves for 1 minute.
4) Stir in cabbage, leek, green onions and carrots until half cooked.
5) Add the broccoli and mushrooms and let everything cook together.
Meanwhile, let’s make the rice noodles and the sauce:
6) Mix in a bowl 1 teaspoon of ground ginger, 2 tablespoons of honey, ½ cup of low-
sodium soya sauce, 2 tablespoons of sesame oil and a pinch of black pepper. Once
ready, add the sauce to the vegetables.
7) Transfer the cooked noodles directly to the pan. Mix well and serve topped with
sesame seeds and green onions.

For those who are not on lent, add some chicken to it and it will turn perfect! Healthy
doesn’t have to be boring!

Something that you do to lift your mood?
Whenever I feel anxious or frustrated, I pray. It calms me down and gives me inner peace. I
also listen to all kind of music depending on my current mood.

Something that you absolutely avoid doing or thinking?
I definitely avoid having any negative or pessimistic attitude towards challenges and new
projects in life. Positive thinking gives me both physical and mental well-being and helps me
cope better with stress and anxiety.

Who are your heroes in real life and why? = the living person you most
admire

The person I most admire is my father, and believe me, I’m being objective here. He’s
balanced, quiet and calm, yet sociable and has this subtle and unexpected light sense of
humour that everyone loves about him. He’s gentle and kind but also determined and firm in
his decisions. He has strong values and principles and is never willing to compromise on
those beliefs. He will never settle for injustice. He is a pharmacist by profession and is a very

hardworking person, which inspires me to follow in his footsteps.

What is your greatest extravagance?
My husband and I are both car fanatics, we recently decided to splurge on a luxury sports
car, just before the birth of our baby boy. Even though it’s not the perfect family car, we still
enjoy child free rides at the weekend or on late nights in our convertible.

What is your motto?
“Tell me and I forget. Show me and I remember. Involve me and I understand.” Confucius.
That’s one quote I particularly cherish among many others.

Professional Summary and Interest

A bit of background on where you grew up?
I was born and brought up in Limassol, Cyprus. Cyprus is a very small island in Mediterranean Sea and one of the southernmost parts of Europe. Cypriots are true islanders, loud and proud, and we enjoy spending time on the beach and big family gatherings with endless feasts.

What did you study?
Upon my high school graduation, I left Cyprus and travelled to Hungary where I obtained my general dentistry degree from the University of Debrecen. I then moved to Dubai from where I gained my Masters of Science in Pediatric Dentistry at the European University College.

Areas of expertise?
Nearing almost 10 years of experience as a pediatric dentist, I am comfortable to provide dental treatment for children from infancy to adolescence covering all aspects of pediatric dentistry from prevention to cure. I can also provide dental treatment under Nitrous Oxide inhalation sedation (laughing gas) and General Anesthesia for children that are anxious.

What is your passion in dentistry?
My goal in dentistry is to help my patients establish healthy habits that will follow them through their youth and beyond. I believe that good oral health plays a major role in improving the overall health and quality of life of a child. I also believe that everyone has the right for a better, healthier and happier future and thus I am very passionate about providing better oral health for people of determination. In line with that, I had participated in Special Smiles Healthy Athletes Team for the Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi and I had visited multiple schools for people of determination to spread awareness about good oral health.

What is your favorite spot in Dubai?
I absolutely adore the Al Bastakiya historic district in Dubai. This area is a true embodiment of Dubai culture mixing the traditional and the contemporary, funky and artistic sides as most traditional houses are now turned into art galleries and exhibition centers.

Music has always been my healer when it comes to the days I feel down. I particularly enjoy rock, soul and groovy 80’s music. My guitar plays a major role in uplifting my mood.

Something that you absolutely avoid thinking?
I try to keep all negative thoughts away. After all life is just a constant cycle, whatever struggle you are facing now will eventually pass and the good days will come again.

Who are your heroes in real life and why?
My grandparents have been real life heroes for me. My grandfather even though he did not graduate school he made sure that all of his children and grandchildren are well provided and educated. Hopefully, I will one day follow their examples when I have my own children.
