What is Guided Implant Surgery?
An advanced software for implants using 3D technology, allows the surgeon to plan the implant placement in the best ideal position of the jaw (after the analysis of the patient’s CT scan and digital models) and with the use of our in house cad/cam 3d printer creating a surgical guide that will transfer that exact position of the implant in the patient’s mouth.
This technology is a software that shows the patient’s mouth in three dimensions, so allows the surgeon to design, plan, see the result and with a clear communication, the patient can be shown how his mouth will be before and after the treatment with implants.
After the planning, we can print the surgical guide in our 3D printer and proceed with the implant placement copying the exact position we decided in the digital 3D planning. With a surgical guide and adequate digital planning our margin of error is practically zero.

Is placing implants without one dangerous or will it fail?
With a surgical guide and adequate digital planning our margin of error is practically zero. This obviously will give us better and more aesthetic results in our treatments.
For sure having a digital guided implant decreases the risk of complications or invading important anatomical structures.
There are many important factors to consider a implant placement successful. Is not only about failure in the implant integration. The implant should be planned thinking of the future crown or prosthesis that will be placed in this implant/implants. With a digital guided implant we can plan the position of the implant considering the design of the prosthesis/crown.
How does it work?
In the same appointment we can:
- scan the patient’s mouth (digital impressions -no more uncomfortable impressions)
- take a cbct scan to study the condition of the bone and anatomical structures
- after the planning with the combination of all the digital records, we can print the surgical guide and prepare the temporary crown.
- proceed to the implant placement and implant crown.
Benefits of Guided Implant Surgery
- Speed : The surgeon plans the implants in less time, which saves clinical time in surgery.
- Safety : There is greater predictability and accuracy of the treatment since the surgeon performs a bone and prosthetic analysis that helps him plan and simplify the treatment.
- Autonomy : The software allows the surgeon to create his own surgical guides, saving the time and intermediates of using a dental laboratory
- Effective Communication : Using 3D images eases the explanation of the treatment which increases patient confidence. Thus, you as a patient can establish interactive and clear communication.
- Aesthetics : Planning the implants with the ideal final crown is key to achieve better aesthetic results.
- Integral : Possibility of combining and integrating orthodontics and smile design.
Does it take longer time..?
Guided surgery actually saves clinical time.
The surgery is faster and in many occasions does not require open flaps or sutures. this reduces the post operative discomfort .
In conclusion, guided implant surgery has completely transformed the dental implant process, offering unparalleled accuracy and predictability to both patients and dental professionals. As we have discussed in this comprehensive guide, this technique has numerous benefits over traditional implant methods, including faster healing times, reduced discomfort, and improved aesthetic results.
